Bambuterol HCl indications
Long-acting bronchodilator for persistent reversible airways obstruction in conditions eg, asthma.
Uses of Bambuterol HCl in details
Bambuterol HCl is used in adults for the management of asthma, bronchospasm and/or reversible airways obstruction.
Bambuterol HCl description
Bambuterol HCl is a long acting beta-adrenoceptor agonist used in the treatment of asthma. It is a prodrug of terbutaline.
Bambuterol HCl dosage
Adults and Children 6-12 Yrs: 1 tablet once a day at bedtime. If necessary, 10 mg dose may be increased to 20 mg after 1-2 weeks, depending on the clinical effect.
Patients who have Previously Tolerated β2-Agonists: Recommended Starting and Maintenance Dose: 20 mg.
Patients with Moderate to Severely Impaired Renal Function (GFR <50mL/min): ½ tablet, once a day at bedtime or as prescribed by a physician.
Bambuterol HCl interactions
Bambuterol HCl inhibits plasma cholinesterases and can prolong the action of drugs eg, suxamethonium that are inactivated by these enzymes.
Bambuterol HCl should not be administered concomitantly with other short-acting sympathomimetic aerosol bronchodilators or epinephrine. If additional sympathomimetic agents are to be administered by any route, these agents should be used with caution to avoid deleterious cardiovascular effects. Beta-adrenergic blocking agents (including eye drops) may inhibit the effect of β-agonists eg, Bambuterol HCl. It may also produce severe bronchospasm. These drugs should be administered with caution.
Hypokalemia may result from β2-agonist therapy and may be potentiated by concomitant treatment with xanthine derivatives (theophylline, aminophylline), steroids (prednisolone) and diuretics.
