If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away. US residents can call their local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canada residents can call a provincial poison control center. Symptoms of overdose may include: slow/shallow breathing, seizures, irregular heartbeat.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.

Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.

What should I avoid while taking Benzocaine otic?

Avoid swimming until your ear infection has completely cleared up.

Do not use other ear drops unless your doctor has told you to.

Do NOT use Benzocaine otic Aerosol Spray if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Benzocaine otic Aerosol Spray or to other local anesthetics (eg, lidocaine).

Do not use Benzocaine otic Aerosol Spray on severe burns or deep puncture wounds.

If your symptoms do not improve within 7 days or if they become worse, check with your doctor.

Do not exceed the recommended dose or use Benzocaine otic Aerosol Spray for longer than 7 days without checking with your doctor.

Benzocaine otic Aerosol Spray is extremely flammable. Do not store or use near an open flame or while smoking.

The contents of this container are under pressure. Do not burn or puncture the container, even if it appears to be empty.

Do not inhale the contents of this container. Inhaling the contents of this container may be harmful or fatal.

Use of Benzocaine otic Aerosol Spray is not recommended in CHILDREN younger than 2 years of age without first checking with your doctor. Safety and effectiveness have not been established.

PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant while taking Benzocaine otic Aerosol Spray, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Benzocaine otic Aerosol Spray during pregnancy. It is unknown if Benzocaine otic Aerosol Spray is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Benzocaine otic Aerosol Spray, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Benzocaine otic?

You should not use Benzocaine otic if you are allergic to it, or if you have a hole in your ear drum (ruptured ear drum).

FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether Benzocaine otic will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medicine.

It is not known whether Benzocaine otic passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Benzocaine otic should not be given to a child younger than 1 year old.

Elderly, debilitated, child. Epilepsy, impaired cardiac conduction or resp function, shock or hepatic impairment. Myasthenia gravis. Avoid: Contact with middle ear; prolonged use or application on extensive areas of the skin. Avoid eating or drinking for at least 3-4 hr after the anaesthetic; rubbing or touching the eye while anaesthesia persists. The anaesthetised eye should be protected from dust and bacterial contamination. Chemical burns must be neutralised before treatment with Benzocaine otic. Pregnancy.

What happens if I miss a dose of Benzocaine otic?

Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
