What happens if I overdose D-Lac?
Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local, or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include diarrhea; stomach cramps.
Proper storage of D-Lac crystals:
Store D-Lac crystals at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Store in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep D-Lac crystals out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Signs and Symptoms
There have been no reports of accidental overdosage. In the event of overdosage, it is expected that diarrhea and abdominal cramps would be the major symptoms. Medication should be terminated.
Oral LD50
The acute oral LD50 of the drug is 48.8 mL/kg in mice and greater than 30 mL/kg in rats.
Dialysis
Dialysis data are not available for D-Lac. Its molecular similarity to sucrose, however, would suggest that it should be dialyzable.
What should I avoid while taking D-Lac?
Avoid using antacids without your doctor's advice. Use only the specific type of antacid your doctor recommends. Antacids contain different medicines and some types can make it harder for your body to absorb D-Lac.
D-Lac warnings
A theoretical hazard may exist for patients being treated with D-Lac solution who may be required to undergo electrocautery procedures during proctoscopy or colonoscopy. Accumulation of H 2 gas in significant concentration in the presence of an electrical spark may result in an explosive reaction. Although this complication has not been reported with D-Lac, patients on D-Lac therapy undergoing such procedures should have a thorough bowel cleansing with a non-fermentable solution. Insufflation of CO2 as an additional safeguard may be pursued but is considered to be a redundant measure.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking D-Lac?
Some medical conditions may interact with D-Lac crystals. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
- if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- if you have diabetes, appendix problems, rectal bleeding, or an intestinal blockage
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with D-Lac crystals. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:
- Antacids because they may decrease D-Lac crystals's effectiveness
This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if D-Lac crystals may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.
D-Lac precautions
Patients who are intolerant to lactose should take D-Lac oral solution with care because it contains lactose.
The dose normally used in constipation should not pose a problem for diabetics. However, the dose used in the treatment of (pre)coma hepaticum is usually much higher and sugar content of D-Lac should be taken into consideration for diabetics.
Laxatives (of any kind) should be used in children only when deemed absolutely necessary and only under medical supervision. Faecal retention abilities could be disturbed during treatment with D-Lac oral solution. Take some protective measures, eg, using diapers, for a small child.
Important Information About the Ingredients: D-Lac may contain small amounts of milk sugar (lactose), galactose, epilactose and fructose. If the patient has an intolerance to some sugars, a physician must be consulted before taking D-Lac.
D-Lac contains lactose, galactose and small amounts of fructose. Therefore, patients with the rare hereditary problems of galactose or fructose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take D-Lac.
Effects on the Ability to Drive or Operate Machinery: D-Lac oral solution has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Paediatric Population: Laxatives (of any kind) should be used in children only when deemed absolutely necessary and only under medical supervision. Faecal retention abilities could be disturbed during treatment with D-Lac oral solution.
What happens if I miss a dose of D-Lac?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
