Camphor (Dolorsan-Balsam) belongs to the class of medicines called rubefacients/antitussives. When applied to the skin, it increases blood flow and local temperature of the affected area which suppresses and temporarily relieves pain sensations. It also eases cough, nasal/throat irritation by moistening air passages when used along with steam.

Actions of Menthol (Dolorsan-Balsam) in details

Menthol (Dolorsan-Balsam) primarily activates the cold-sensitive TRPM8 receptors in the skin. Menthol (Dolorsan-Balsam), after topical application, causes a feeling of coolness due to stimulation of 'cold' receptors by inhibiting Ca++ currents of neuronal membranes. It may also yield analgesic properties via kappa-opioid receptor agonism.

Menthol (Dolorsan-Balsam) pharmacology

Menthol (Dolorsan-Balsam) is a covalent organic compound made synthetically or obtained from peppermint or other mint oils. Menthol (Dolorsan-Balsam)'s ability to chemically trigger cold-sensitive receptors in the skin is responsible for the well known cooling sensation that it provokes when inhalated, eaten, or applied to the skin. It should be noted that Menthol (Dolorsan-Balsam) does not cause an actual drop in temperature.

Actions of Methyl Salicylate (Dolorsan-Balsam) in details

Methyl Salicylate (Dolorsan-Balsam) is hypoallergenic and soothing.
