What happens if I overdose Driptane Ipsen?
Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center, or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include agitation; coma; confusion; delirium; enlarged pupils; fever; flushing; hallucinations; inability to urinate; irregular heartbeat; irritability; memory problems; paralysis; restlessness; seizures; severe or persistent dizziness, drowsiness, or headache; tremor; trouble breathing; unusually dry mouth or skin; vomiting.
Proper storage of Driptane Ipsen extended-release tablets:
Store Driptane Ipsen extended-release tablets at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Driptane Ipsen extended-release tablets out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Overdose of Driptane Ipsen in details
The continuous release of Driptane Ipsen from Driptane Ipsen Chloride Extended Release Tablets should be considered in the treatment of overdosage. Patients should be monitored for at least 24 hours. Treatment should be symptomatic and supportive. Activated charcoal as well as a cathartic may be administered.
Overdosage with Driptane Ipsen chloride has been associated with anticholinergic effects including central nervous system excitation, flushing, fever, dehydration, cardiac arrhythmia, vomiting, and urinary retention.
Ingestion of 100 mg Driptane Ipsen chloride in association with alcohol has been reported in a 13-year-old boy who experienced memory loss, and a 34-year-old woman who developed stupor, followed by disorientation and agitation on awakening, dilated pupils, dry skin, cardiac arrhythmia, and retention of urine. Both patients fully recovered with symptomatic treatment.
What should I avoid while taking Driptane Ipsen?
Do not expose the Driptane Ipsen skin patch to sunlight. It should be worn under clothing.
Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of Driptane Ipsen.
Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how this medicine will affect you. Your reactions could be impaired.
Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercise and in hot weather. Driptane Ipsen can decrease sweating and you may be more prone to heat stroke.
Avoid getting this medicine in your eyes. If contact does occur, rinse with water.
Avoid applying lotions, powders, or oils to the skin you plan to treat with Driptane Ipsen transdermal. These other skin products can make it harder for your skin to absorb Driptane Ipsen, and it may not work as well. You may apply Driptane Ipsen gel to skin that has been treated with sunscreen.
Driptane Ipsen warnings
5.1 Urinary Retention
Administer Driptane Ipsen with caution in patients with clinically significant bladder outflow obstruction because of the risk of urinary retention.
5.2 Use in Patients with Gastrointestinal Disorders
Administer Driptane Ipsen with caution to patients with gastrointestinal obstructive disorders because of the risk of gastric retention.
Driptane Ipsen, like other anticholinergic drugs, may decrease gastrointestinal motility and should be used with caution in patients with conditions such as ulcerative colitis or intestinal atony. Driptane Ipsen should be used with caution in patients who have gastroesophageal reflux and/or who are concurrently taking drugs (such as bisphosphonates) that can cause or exacerbate esophagitis.
5.3 Angioedema
Angioedema requiring hospitalization and emergency medical treatment has occurred with the first or subsequent doses of oral Driptane Ipsen. In the event of angioedema, Driptane Ipsen-containing product should be discontinued and appropriate therapy promptly provided.
5.4 Skin Hypersensitivity
In a controlled clinical trial of skin sensitization, 1 of 200 patients (0.5%) demonstrated skin hypersensitivity to Driptane Ipsen. Patients who develop skin hypersensitivity to Driptane Ipsen should discontinue drug treatment.
5.5 Central Nervous System Effects
Driptane Ipsen is associated with anticholinergic central nervous system (CNS) effects. A variety of CNS anticholinergic effects have been reported, including headache, dizziness, somnolence, confusion and hallucinations. Patients should be monitored for signs of anticholinergic CNS effects, particularly after beginning treatment. Advise patients not to drive or operate heavy machinery until they know how Driptane Ipsen affects them. If a patient experiences anticholinergic CNS effects, drug discontinuation should be considered.
5.6 Skin Transference
Transfer of Driptane Ipsen to another person can occur when vigorous skin-to-skin contact is made with the application site. To minimize the potential transfer of Driptane Ipsen from Driptane Ipsen-treated skin to another person, patients should cover the application site with clothing after the gel has dried if direct skin-to-skin contact at the application site is anticipated. Patients should wash their hands immediately after application of Driptane Ipsen.
5.7 Flammable Gel
Driptane Ipsen is an alcohol-based gel and is therefore flammable. Avoid open fire or smoking until gel has dried.
5.8 Myasthenia Gravis
Administer Driptane Ipsen with caution in patients with myasthenia gravis, a disease characterized by decreased cholinergic activity at the neuromuscular junction.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Driptane Ipsen?
Some medical conditions may interact with Driptane Ipsen gel. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
- if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- if you have trouble urinating or very poor health
- if you have a history of heart problems (eg, heart failure, fast or irregular heartbeat), high blood pressure, nervous system problems, liver or kidney problems, myasthenia gravis, an enlarged prostate, esophagus problems (eg, reflux disease, inflammation, narrowing), stomach or bowel problems (eg, colitis, inflammation, constipation), or a hiatal hernia
- if you have a history of glaucoma or increased pressure in the eyes, or if you are at risk of glaucoma (eg, family history of glaucoma)
- if you are also taking a solid oral potassium product (eg, tablets)
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Driptane Ipsen gel. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:
- Bisphosphonates (eg, alendronate) because the risk of irritation of the esophagus may be increased
- Other anticholinergic medicines (eg, scopolamine), azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole), or macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin) because they may increase the risk of Driptane Ipsen gel's side effects
- Solid oral potassium products (eg, tablets) because the risk of stomach or bowel irritation may be increased by Driptane Ipsen gel
- Phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine) because their effectiveness may be decreased by Driptane Ipsen gel and they may increase the risk of Driptane Ipsen gel's side effects
This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Driptane Ipsen gel may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

What happens if I miss a dose of Driptane Ipsen?
Apply the gel as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not apply two doses at one time.
If you forget to change a skin patch on your scheduled day, replace the patch as soon as you remember. Wear the new patch until your next regular patch-changing day. Do not apply two patches at the same time and do not change your patch-changing schedule.
If a patch falls off, try sticking back into place. If it does not stick well, put on a new patch and leave it on only for the rest of your wearing time. Do not change your patch removal schedule.
