Pregnancy of Hydroderm-C in details
FDA pregnancy category: C Hydroderm-C-Hydrocortisone (Hydroderm-C) topical should be used during pregnancy only if the benefit outweighs the risk. Comments:
Topical corticosteroids should not be used extensively on pregnant patients in large amounts or for prolonged durations.
Animal studies have revealed evidence of fetal abnormalities with topical corticosteroid exposure (some at low dose levels) and teratogenicity after dermal application of more potent corticosteroids. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.
Topical steroid use has not been reported to have harmful effects on pregnancy; however, safety has not been absolutely established. FDA pregnancy category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
Hydroderm-C breastfeeding
It is unknown if there is sufficient systemic absorption with topical use of this drug to have detectable quantities in breast milk. Systemically administered corticosteroids are secreted into breast milk in quantities not likely to have a harmful effect on the infant.
