What are the possible side effects of Lopetab?
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop taking Lopetab and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

stomach pain or bloating;
-
ongoing or worsening diarrhea;
-
diarrhea that is watery or bloody; or
-
severe skin reaction -- fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.
Less serious side effects may include:

dizziness;
-
drowsiness, tired feeling;
-
constipation;
-
mild stomach pain; or
-
mild skin rash or itching.

ongoing or worsening diarrhea;
diarrhea that is watery or bloody; or
fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash.
Less serious side effects may include:
dizziness;
drowsiness, tired feeling;
constipation;
mild stomach pain; or
mild skin rash or itching.
What is the most important information I should know about Lopetab?
- Lopetab may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or tiredness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Lopetab with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
- Do not take more than the recommended dose or use for longer than 48 hours without checking with your doctor.
- If your diarrhea does not get better within 48 hours or if it gets worse, contact your doctor.
- If you develop a fever, stomach bloating or swelling, or blood in your stools, contact your doctor.
- Lopetab is used to treat the symptoms of diarrhea, but will not treat the condition causing the diarrhea. Check with your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about the cause of your diarrhea.
- Diabetes patients - Lopetab may contain sugar. Read the labelling carefully. If you are unsure if this product contains sugar, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
- Caution is advised when using Lopetab in CHILDREN; they may be more sensitive to its effects, especially dehydration.
- Do not use Lopetab in CHILDREN younger than 6 years old without checking with the child's doctor.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Lopetab while you are pregnant. Lopetab is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Lopetab.
Lopetab contraindications
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Lopetab, or if you have:
stools that are bloody, black, or tarry; or
if you have diarrhea that is caused by taking an antibiotic.
Before taking Lopetab, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:
a fever;
mucus in your stools;
a history of liver disease; or
if you are taking an antibiotic.
If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take Lopetab.
