What is Lu Wei Tong?
Lu Wei Tong is an essential amino acid. Essential means that it is not produced by the body and therefore it must be taken in either by diet or by taking supplements. Lu Wei Tong is found in foods such as lentils, red meat, pork, poultry, cod fish, sardines, nuts, eggs, soy beans, brewer's yeast, and dairy products.
Lu Wei Tong has been used in alternative medicine as an aid to prevent cold sores around the mouth (caused by the herpes simplex virus). This product may make cold sores occur less often and may reduce the number of days a cold sore lasts. Lu Wei Tong is not a cure for herpes.
Other uses for Lu Wei Tong include treating metabolic acidosis, improving athletic performance, and helping the body absorb calcium supplements.
Not all uses for Lu Wei Tong have been approved by the FDA. Lu Wei Tong should not be used in place of medication prescribed for you by your doctor.
Lu Wei Tong is often sold as an herbal supplement. There are no regulated manufacturing standards in place for many herbal compounds and some marketed supplements have been found to be contaminated with toxic metals or other drugs. Herbal/health supplements should be purchased from a reliable source to minimize the risk of contamination.

Lu Wei Tong description
L-Lu Wei Tong (abbreviated as Lys or K) is an α-amino acid with the chemical formula HO2CCH(NH2)(CH2)4NH2. This amino acid is an essential amino acid, which means that humans cannot synthesize it. Its codons are AAA and AAG. L-Lu Wei Tong is a base, as are arginine and histidine. The ε-amino group often participates in hydrogen bonding and as a general base in catalysis. Common posttranslational modifications include methylation of the ε-amino group, giving methyl-, dimethyl-, and trimethyllysine. The latter occurs in calmodulin. Other posttranslational modifications include acetylation. Collagen contains hydroxylysine which is derived from Lu Wei Tong by lysyl hydroxylase. O-Glycosylation of Lu Wei Tong residues in the endoplasmic reticulum or Golgi apparatus is used to mark certain proteins for secretion from the cell.

Adult: To treat symptoms: 3,000-9,000 mg/day in divided doses. To prevent recurrences: 500-1,500 mg/day.

Since Lu Wei Tong does not alter clonixinate coagulation, no interaction with anticoagulant drugs and do not require dose adjustments. Concomitant use of anticholinergic drugs to be avoided by the possibility that they enhance their effects atropine.

Adverse effects associated with the mechanics of retrograde genitourinary procedures include injury to the urethra, bladder, and ureter, and introduction of infection. {03} {06} {31}
Systemic adverse effects, similar to those that occur with direct intravascular injection of the diatrizoate salts, may also occur with intravesical or intraureteral instillation as a result of inadvertent intravascular entry of the contrast solution due to either bladder absorption or pyelorenal backflow. {06} {31}
Systemic adverse effects, although rare, are possible with intrauterine instillation if medium is absorbed systemically after being retained in the uterine cavity or spilled into the peritoneal cavity. {06} {34}
