What is New Acute Cold Formula?

New Acute Cold Formula is a pain reliever and a fever reducer. It is used to treat many conditions, such as headache, muscle aches, arthritis, backache, toothaches, colds, and fevers.

Chlorpheniramine (New Acute Cold Formula) is an antihistamine. It blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in the body. Chlorpheniramine (New Acute Cold Formula) prevents sneezing; itchy, watery eyes and nose; and other symptoms of allergies and hay fever.

Dextromethorphan (New Acute Cold Formula) is a cough suppressant. It suppresses an area in the brain that causes coughing.

Phenylpropanolamine (New Acute Cold Formula) is a decongestant. It constricts (shrinks) blood vessels (veins and arteries) allowing nasal passages to open up.

New Acute Cold Formula/Chlorpheniramine (New Acute Cold Formula)/Dextromethorphan (New Acute Cold Formula)/Phenylpropanolamine (New Acute Cold Formula) is used to treat nasal congestion, sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses), runny nose, watery eyes, headache, body aches, and coughs associated with allergies, hay fever, and the common cold.

Phenylpropanolamine (New Acute Cold Formula), an ingredient in this product, has been associated with an increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding into the brain or into tissue surrounding the brain) in women. Men may also be at risk. Although the risk of hemorrhagic stroke is low, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that consumers not use any products that contain Phenylpropanolamine (New Acute Cold Formula).

New Acute Cold Formula/Chlorpheniramine (New Acute Cold Formula)/Dextromethorphan (New Acute Cold Formula)/Phenylpropanolamine (New Acute Cold Formula) may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

What other drugs will affect New Acute Cold Formula?

New Acute Cold Formula is metabolized (eliminated by conversion to other chemicals) by the liver. Therefore drugs that increase the action of liver enzymes that metabolize New Acute Cold Formula [for example, carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid (INH, Nydrazid, Laniazid), rifampin (Rifamate, Rifadin, Rimactane)] reduce the levels of New Acute Cold Formula and may decrease the action of New Acute Cold Formula. Doses of New Acute Cold Formula greater than the recommended doses are toxic to the liver and may result in severe liver damage. The potential for New Acute Cold Formula to harm the liver is increased when it is combined with alcohol or drugs that also harm the liver.

Cholestyramine (Questran) reduces the effect of New Acute Cold Formula by decreasing its absorption into the body from the intestine. Therefore, New Acute Cold Formula should be administered 3 to 4 hours after cholestyramine or one hour before cholestyramine.

New Acute Cold Formula doses greater than 2275 mg per day may increase the blood thinning effect of warfarin (Coumadin) by an unknown mechanism. Therefore, prolonged administration or large doses of New Acute Cold Formula should be avoided during warfarin therapy
