What are the possible side effects of Oramagic Plus Suspension?

Oramagic Plus Suspension used in the mouth may cause a condition in which the oxygen in your body tissues can become dangerously low. This is a potentially fatal condition called methemoglobinemia (met-HEEM-oh glo-bin-EE-mee-a). This condition may occur after only one use of benzocaine or after several uses.

Signs and symptoms may occur within minutes or up to 2 hours after using Oramagic Plus Suspension in the mouth or throat. GET EMERGENCY MEDICAL HELP IF YOU HAVE:

• a headache, tiredness, confusion;

• fast heartbeats;

• feeling light-headed or short of breath; and

• pale, blue, or gray appearance of your skin, lips, or fingernails.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Anbesol: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using Oramagic Plus Suspension and call your doctor at once if you have:

• severe burning, stinging, or sensitivity where the medicine is applied;

• swelling, warmth, or redness; or

• oozing, blistering, or any signs of infection.

Common Oramagic Plus Suspension side effects may include:

• mild stinging, burning, or itching where the medicine is applied;

• skin tenderness or redness; or

• dry white flakes where the medicine was applied.

Along with its needed effects, Oramagic Plus Suspension (the active ingredient contained in Oramagic Plus Suspension) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking Oramagic Plus Suspension:

• Bluish-colored lips, fingernails, or palms
• dark urine
• difficulty breathing
• dizziness or lightheadedness
• headache
• high fever
• nausea
• pale skin
• rapid heart rate
• sore throat
• unusual bleeding or bruising
• unusual tiredness or weakness
• vomiting
• worsening of pain, redness, swelling, or irritation in or around the mouth

What is the most important information I should know about Oramagic Plus Suspension?

• Do not use Oramagic Plus Suspension on severe burns or deep puncture wounds.
• If your symptoms do not improve within 7 days or if they become worse, check with your doctor.
• Do not exceed the recommended dose or use Oramagic Plus Suspension for longer than 7 days without checking with your doctor.
• Oramagic Plus Suspension is extremely flammable. Do not store or use near an open flame or while smoking.
• The contents of this container are under pressure. Do not burn or puncture the container, even if it appears to be empty.
• Do not inhale the contents of this container. Inhaling the contents of this container may be harmful or fatal.
• Use of Oramagic Plus Suspension is not recommended in CHILDREN younger than 2 years of age without first checking with your doctor. Safety and effectiveness have not been established.
• PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant while taking Oramagic Plus Suspension, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Oramagic Plus Suspension during pregnancy. It is unknown if Oramagic Plus Suspension is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Oramagic Plus Suspension, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Oramagic Plus Suspension contraindications

If you have any of these other conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use Oramagic Plus Suspension:

asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, or other breathing disorder;

heart disease;

a personal or family history of methemoglobinemia, or any genetic enzyme deficiency; or

if you smoke.
