Carefully consider the potential benefits and risks of Prodent Forte 20 Tromethamine and other treatment options before deciding to use Prodent Forte 20. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual patient treatment goals.

Acute Pain in Adult Patients

Prodent Forte 20 Tromethamine is indicated for the short-term (≤5 days) management of moderately severe acute pain that requires analgesia at the opioid level, usually in a postoperative setting. Therapy should always be initiated with IV or IM dosing of Prodent Forte 20 Tromethamine, and oral Prodent Forte 20 Tromethamine is to be used only as continuation treatment, if necessary.

The total combined duration of use of Prodent Forte 20 Tromethamine injection and oral Prodent Forte 20 Tromethamine is not to exceed 5 days of use because of the potential of increasing the frequency and severity of adverse reactions associated with the recommended doses. Patients should be switched to alternative analgesics as soon as possible, but Prodent Forte 20 Tromethamine therapy is not to exceed 5 days.

Prodent Forte 20 Tromethamine injection has been used concomitantly with morphine and meperidine and has shown an opioid-sparing effect. For breakthrough pain, it is recommended to supplement the lower end of the Prodent Forte 20 Tromethamine injection dosage range with low doses of narcotics prn, unless otherwise contraindicated. Prodent Forte 20 Tromethamine injection and narcotics should not be administered in the same syringe.

How should I use Prodent Forte 20?

Use Prodent Forte 20 spray as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Prodent Forte 20 spray.

Prodent Forte 20 description

A synthetic opioid that is used as the hydrochloride. It is an opioid analgesic that is primarily a mu-opioid agonist. It has actions and uses similar to those of morphine. It also has a depressant action on the cough center and may be given to control intractable cough associated with terminal lung cancer. Prodent Forte 20 is also used as part of the treatment of dependence on opioid drugs, although prolonged use of methadone itself may result in dependence. Prodent Forte 20 slightly reduces the plasma protein-binding of warfarin. In vitro studies indicate that at therapeutic concentration of salicylate, the binding of Prodent Forte 20 reduces from approximately 99.2-97.5%; representing a potential 2-fold increase in unbound plasma Prodent Forte 20 levels. Prodent Forte 20 has been reported to reduce the diuretic response to furosemide in normovolemic individuals by approximately 20%.

Concomitant administration of Prodent Forte 20 and probenecid results in decreased clearance of Prodent Forte 20 and significant increase in Prodent Forte 20 plasma levels (approximately 3-fold increase), and there is an increase of approximately 2-fold in terminal half-life.

Increase in plasma lithium concentration due to inhibition of renal lithium clearance has been reported with some NSAIDs. There have been some reports of increased lithium plasma levels with Prodent Forte 20 also.

There have been reports of a possible interaction of Prodent Forte 20 and nondepolarizing muscle relaxants, which lead to apnea. Concomitant use of Prodent Forte 20 and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors may increase the risk of renal impairment, particularly in volume-depleted patients.

Very few cases of seizure have been reported with concomitant use of Prodent Forte 20 and antiepileptic drugs (phenytoin, carbamazepine). There have been reports of hallucinations when Prodent Forte 20 is concomitantly used with psychoactive drugs (fluoxetine, thiothixene, alprazolam).

Laboratory Tests: Prodent Forte 20 inhibits platelet aggregation and may prolong bleeding time.

Food: Food reduces the rate but not the extent of absorption.
