What are the possible side effects of Targifor?
Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.
Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:
Rare
- Redness or discoloration of the skin
- swelling of the hands and face
- Blood in the urine
- cough
- difficulty swallowing
- dizziness
- fast heartbeat
- hives, itching, skin rash
- pain or redness at the injection site
- pale skin at the injection site
- puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
- tightness in the chest
- unusual tiredness or weakness
Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

- Confusion
- deep or fast breathing with dizziness
- drowsiness
- muscle tremors
- numbness of the feet, hands, and around the mouth
- rapid, deep breathing
- restlessness
- stomach cramps
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:
Less common
- Bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, rash, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site
- headache
- nausea
- numbness
- vomiting

Side effects of Targifor in details
Adverse reactions associated with 1670 infusions in premarketing studies were as
follows:
Non-specific side effects consisting of nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing, numbness
and local venous irritation were reported in approximately 3% of the patients.
One patient had an allergic reaction which was manifested as a confluent macular rash
with reddening and swelling of the hands and face. The rash subsided rapidly after the
infusion was terminated and 50 mg of diphenhydramine were administered. One patient
had an apparent decrease in platelet count from 150,000 to 60,000. One patient with a
history of acrocyanosis had an exacerbation of this condition following infusion of RGene
® 10.
Targifor contraindications
Supplemental L-Targifor is contraindicated in those with the rare genetic disorder argininemia. It is also contraindicated in those hypersensitive to any component of an Targifor-containing preparation.
