Along with its needed effects, Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit) (the active ingredient contained in Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit)) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Some side effects of Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit) may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. What is the most important information I should know about Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit)?
- If cough persists for more than 1 week or is accompanied by a fever, contact your health care provider. A persistent cough could be a sign of a serious condition.
- Some of these products contain phenylalanine. If you must have a diet that is low in phenylalanine, ask your pharmacist if it is in your product.
- Different brands of Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit) may have different dosing instructions for CHILDREN. Follow the dosing instructions on the package labeling. If your doctor has given you instructions, follow those. If you are unsure of the dose to give a child, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit) while you are pregnant. It is not known if Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit) is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit), check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit) contraindications
Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit) is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to methadone hydrochloride or any other ingredient in DOLOPHINE.
Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit) is contraindicated in any situation where opioids are contraindicated such as: patients with respiratory depression (in the absence of resuscitative equipment or in unmonitored settings), and in patients with acute bronchial asthma or hypercarbia.
Guaifenesin (Novo-Passit) is contraindicated in any patient who has or is suspected of having a paralytic ileus.

Side effects of Passion Flower (Novo-Passit) in details
Passionflower is LIKELY SAFE for most people when taken by mouth in amounts normally found in food. It is POSSIBLY SAFE when taken short-term (less than one month) as medicine. It is POSSIBLY UNSAFE when taken by mouth in large amounts.
Passionflower can cause some side effects such as dizziness, confusion, irregular muscle action and coordination, altered consciousness, and inflamed blood vessels. There has also been a report of nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, a rapid heart rate, and abnormal heart rhythm in one person who took it.

What are the possible side effects of St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit)?
Although uncommon, allergic reactions to St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit) have been reported. Stop taking St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit) and seek emergency medical attention if you experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction including difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives.
Other less serious side effects have been more frequently reported. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience

Side effects of St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit) in details
Adverse effects reported with St John’s wort have included gastrointestinal symptoms, dizziness, headache, confusion, urinary frequency, allergic reactions, and fatigue. Photosensitivity has also been reported; hypericin and pseudohypericin are the constituents of St John’s wort thought to be responsible for this reaction.
What is the most important information I should know about St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit)?
- This product may cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this product. Using this product alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Do not drink alcohol while taking this product.
- St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit) interacts with some medicines, which may be dangerous. St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit) may affect the way your liver metabolizes other medicines. Check with your doctor before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter. This includes medicine that contains pseudoephedrine, phenylpropanolamine, l-tryptophan, herbal phen-fen products, or yohimbine.
- Do not exceed the recommended dose for this herbal product.
- If you are taking St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit) for depression and your symptoms do not improve after 4 to 6 weeks of regular use, contact your doctor. Contact your doctor as soon as possible if your symptoms become worse of if your depression is severe. St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit) is Hypericum perforatum and should not be confused with other Hypericum species. Other Hypericum products do not have the same effects. Read the label carefully or ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Before you have any medical or dental treatments, emergency care, or surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking this product.
- This product may cause increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to this product. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period.
- This product has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as safe and effective for any medical condition. The long-term safety of herbal products is not known. Before using any alternative medicine, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
- St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit) may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pill. Use an additional form of contraception (eg, condoms) while using St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit).
- St. John's Wort (Novo-Passit) is not recommended for use in CHILDREN.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Do not take this product if you are pregnant. Do not breast-feed while taking this product.
What are the possible side effects of Valerian (Novo-Passit)?
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Although not all side effects are known, Valerian (Novo-Passit) is thought to be possibly safe when taken for a short period of time (4 to 8 weeks).
Stop using Valerian (Novo-Passit) and call your doctor at once if you have:

liver problems--nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
Common side effects may include:

headache;

upset stomach;

thinking problems;
-
dry mouth;
-
feeling excited or uneasy;
-
strange dreams; or
-
daytime drowsiness.

Side effects of Valerian (Novo-Passit) in details
Headache, restlessness, upset stomach, or drowsiness/tiredness after waking up may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Tell your doctor right away if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: persistent nausea/vomiting, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine, extreme tiredness.
A very serious allergic reaction to this product is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

- Check with your doctor before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter. This includes medicine that contains antihistamines, especially cough and cold medicines. Ask your pharmacist if you are uncertain.
