What are the possible side effects of Vimtop?

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop taking Vimtop and call your doctor at once if you have:

• chest pain, feeling short of breath;

• growth problems (in a child taking Vimtop); or

• early signs of vitamin D overdose--weakness, metallic taste in your mouth, weight loss, muscle or bone pain, constipation, nausea, and vomiting.

Less serious side effects may be more likely, and you may have none at all.

Applies to Vimtop: oral capsule, oral capsule liquid filled, oral solution, oral tablet, oral tablet chewable, oral wafer

In addition to its needed effects, some unwanted effects may be caused by Vimtop (the active ingredient contained in Vimtop). In the event that any of these side effects do occur, they may require medical attention.

Major Side Effects

You should check with your doctor immediately if any of these side effects occur when taking Vimtop:

Incidence not known:

• Cough
• difficulty swallowing
• dizziness
• fast heartbeat
• hives or itching
• puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
• skin rash
• tightness in the chest
• unusual tiredness or weakness

What is the most important information I should know about Vimtop?

You should not take Vimtop if you have had an allergic reaction to vitamin D, or if you have high levels of calcium or vitamin D in your body, or any condition that makes it hard for your body to absorb nutrients from food (malabsorption).

Vimtop contraindications

Contraindications for vitamin D analogues (Vitamin D2, Vitamin D3, Calcitriol, and Calcidiol)

Vitamin D should not be given to patients with hypercalcemia or evidence of vitamin D toxicity. Use of vitamin D in patients with known hypersensitivity to vitamin D (or drugs of the same class) or any of the inactive ingredients is contraindicated.
