What is Mesotop?
Treating itching, redness, and swelling of many skin conditions.
Mesotop is a topical corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammatory reactions and modifying immune reactions in the body.
Mesotop indications
Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis
Mesotop Nasal Spray 50 mcg is indicated for the treatment of the nasal symptoms of seasonal allergic and perennial allergic rhinitis, in adults and pediatric patients 2 years of age and older.
Treatment of Nasal Congestion Associated with Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis
Mesotop Nasal Spray 50 mcg is indicated for the relief of nasal congestion associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis, in adults and pediatric patients 2 years of age and older.
Prophylaxis of Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis
Mesotop Nasal Spray 50 mcg is indicated for the prophylaxis of the nasal symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis in adult and adolescent patients 12 years and older.
Treatment of Nasal Polyps
Mesotop Nasal Spray 50 mcg is indicated for the treatment of nasal polyps in patients 18 years of age and older.
How should I use Mesotop?
Use Mesotop as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Shake well before each use.
- Apply a small amount of Mesotop to the affected area once a day. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands immediately after using Mesotop, unless your hands are part of the treated area.
- If you miss a dose of Mesotop, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Mesotop dosage
Apply a thin film of Mesotop (Mesotop ointment) to the affected skin areas once daily. Mesotop (Mesotop ointment) may be used in pediatric patients 2 years of age or older. Since safety and efficacy of Mesotop (Mesotop ointment) have not been adequately established in pediatric patients below 2 years of age, its use in this age group is not recommended..
As with other corticosteroids, therapy should be discontinued when control is achieved. If no improvement is seen within 2 weeks, reassessment of diagnosis may be necessary.
Safety and efficacy of Mesotop (Mesotop ointment) in pediatric patients for more than 3 weeks have not been established.
Mesotop (Mesotop ointment) should not be used with occlusive dressings unless directed by a physician. Mesotop (Mesotop ointment) should not be applied in the diaper area if the child still requires diapers or plastic pants as these garments may constitute occlusive dressing.
How supplied
Mesotop (Mesotop ointment), 0.1%, is supplied in 15-g (NDC 0085-0370-01) and 45-g (NDC 0085-0370-02) tubes; boxes of one.
Store at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15-30°C (59-86°F)

In controlled clinical studies involving 812 patients, the incidence of adverse reactions associated with the use of Mesotop (Mesotop ointment) was 4.8%. Reported reactions included burning, pruritus, skin atrophy, tingling/stinging, and furunculosis. Reports of rosacea associated with the use of Mesotop (Mesotop ointment) have been received. In controlled clinical studies (n=74) involving pediatric patients 2 to 12 years of age, the incidence of adverse experiences associated with the use of ELOCON Cream is approximately 7%. Reported reactions included stinging, pruritus, and furunculosis.
The following adverse reactions were reported to be possibly or probably related to treatment with Mesotop (Mesotop ointment) during a clinical study, in 5% of 63 pediatric patients 6 months to 2 years of age: decreased glucocorticoid levels, 1; an unspecified skin disorder, 1; and a bacterial skin infection, 1. The following signs of skin atrophy were also observed among 63 patients treated with Mesotop (Mesotop ointment) in a clinical study: shininess 4, telangiectasia 1, loss of elasticity 4, loss of normal skin markings 4, thinness 1. Striae and bruising were not observed in this study.
The following additional local adverse reactions have been reported infrequently with topical corticosteroids, but may occur more frequently with the use of occlusive dressings. These reactions are listed in an approximate decreasing order of occurrence: irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, secondary infection, striae, and miliaria.
