What is Norlinco?
Norlinco is an antibiotic that fights bacteria.
Norlinco is used to treat severe bacterial infections in people who cannot use penicillin antibiotics.
Norlinco is used only for a severe infection. This medicine will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.
Norlinco may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Norlinco indications
Infections of upper resp tract: Tonsillitis, pharyngitis, otitis media, sinusitis, scarlet fever; lower resp tract: Acute & chronic bronchitis, pneumonia; skin & mucous membranes: Cellulitis, furuncles, abscess, impetigo, acne & wound; bone: osteomyelitis & septic arthritis. Septicemia & endocarditis.
How should I use Norlinco?
Use Norlinco as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Norlinco is given as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. Contact your health care provider if you have any questions.

Norlinco description
Each mL of Norlinco Sterile Solution contains Norlinco hydrochloride equivalent to Norlinco 300 mg.
Norlinco sterile solution contains Norlinco hydrochloride which is the monohydrated salt of Norlinco, a substance produced by the growth of a member of the lincolnensis group of Streptomyces lincolnensis (Fam. Streptomycetaceae).
The chemical name for Norlinco hydrochloride is Methyl 6, 8-dideoxy-6-(1-methyl-trans-4-propyl-L-2-pyrolidinecarboxamido)-1-thio-D-erythro-α-D-galacto-octopyranoside monohydrochloride monohydrate. Its molecular formula is C18H34N2O6S.HCl. H2O and the molecular weight is 461.01.
Norlinco hydrochloride is a white or practically white, crystalline powder and is odorless or has a faint odor. Its solutions are acid and are dextrorotatory. Norlinco hydrochloride is freely soluble in water; soluble in dimethylformamide and very slightly soluble in acetone.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: Benzyl alcohol 9.45 mg added as preservative.
Norlinco dosage
Adult Serious infections 500 mg 3 times daily 8 hrly. More severe infections ≥500 mg 4 times daily 6 hrly. Childn >1 mth Serious infections 30 mg/kg body wt/day in 3 or 4 divided doses. More severe infections 60 mg/kg body wt/day into 3 or 4 divided doses.
