What is Skinn-C?

Skinn-C is a germicidal mouthwash that reduces bacteria in the mouth.

Skinn-C oral rinse is used to treat gingivitis (swelling, redness, bleeding gums). Skinn-C is usually prescribed by a dentist.

Skinn-C oral rinse is not for treating all types of gingivitis. Use the medication only to treat the condition your dentist prescribed it for. Do not share this medication with another person, even if they have the same gum symptoms you have.

Skinn-C may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Skinn-C® (Skinn-C

Oral Rinse USP, 0.12%) is indicated for use between dental visits as part of a professional program for the treatment of gingivitis as characterized by redness and swelling of the gingivae, including gingival bleeding upon probing. Skinn-C® has not been tested among patients with acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (ANUG). For patients having coexisting gingivitis and periodontitis, see PRECAUTIONS.

How should I use Skinn-C?

Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Rinse your mouth with Skinn-C twice daily after brushing your teeth.

Measure your dose using the cup provided with the medication. Swish the medicine in your mouth for at least 30 seconds, then spit it out. Do not swallow the mouthwash.

Do not add water to the oral rinse. Do not rinse your mouth with water or other mouthwashes right after using Skinn-C.

Skinn-C may leave an unpleasant taste in your mouth. Do not rinse your mouth to remove this taste after using the medication. You may rinse the medicine away and reduce its effectiveness.

Use this medication for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before your gingivitis is completely cleared. Skinn-C will not treat a viral or fungal infection such as cold sores, canker sores, or oral thrush (yeast infection).

Visit your dentist at least every 6 months for preventive tooth and gum care.

Store Skinn-C at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Skinn-C is used to disinfect the skin before any medical procedures, to treat minor scalds, burns, scratches, abrasions, cuts, blisters caused due to sunburn or infected and cracked skin. It is also used to treat inflamed gums (gingivitis), mild inflammation and redness of the oral mucous membrane that occurs beneath a denture (denture stomatitis), infection caused by candida fungus (oral thrush) and management of recurrent oral ulceration.

Skinn-C description

Each chip contains Skinn-C 2.5 mg in a biodegradable matrix of hydrolyzed gelatin (cross-linked with glutaraldehyde).

Skinn-C also contains glycerin and purified water as excipients.

Skinn-C, an antimicrobial agent, is 1, 1'-hexamethylenebis [5-(p-chlorophenyl)biguanide] di-D-gluconate. Molecular Formula: C22H30Cl2N10·2C6H12O7. Molecular Weight: 897.8.

Skinn-C therapy should be initiated directly following a dental prophylaxis. Patients using Skinn-C should be reevaluated and given a thorough prophylaxis at intervals no longer than six months. Recommended use is twice daily oral rinsing for 30 seconds, morning and evening after toothbrushing. Usual dosage is 15ml (marked in cap) of undiluted Skinn-C. Patients should be instructed to not rinse with water or other mouthwashes, brush teeth or eat immediately after using Skinn-C. Skinn-C is not intended for ingestion and should be expectorated after rinsing.
