What is Banalg?
Banalg (for the skin) is used for temporary relief of muscle or joint pain caused by strains, sprains, arthritis, bruising, or backaches.
Banalg may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Banalg indications
Banalg Arthritis Pain Relief Ointment For the temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscle and joints associated with arthritis.
How should I use Banalg?
Use exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Make sure your skin is clean and dry before you apply Banalg.
Do not apply methyl salicylate to open wounds, or to skin that is sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, or otherwise irritated.
When using Banalg cream, gel, lotion, oil, ointment, or spray: apply a thin layer to the affected area and rub in gently until completely absorbed.
To use the liquid or stick, uncap the applicator and press it firmly on your skin to apply the medication. Massage gently onto the affected are until completely absorbed.
To apply a Banalg skin patch, remove the liner and apply the patch to your skin over the area of pain. Press the edges firmly into place. Remove the patch and apply a new patch 1 or 2 times daily if needed.
Banalg may be used up to 4 times daily or as directed on the medicine label.
Wash your hands with soap and water immediately after applying Banalg or handling the skin patch. If you have applied the medicine to your hands or fingers to treat pain in those areas, wait at least 30 minutes before washing your hands.
To keep the medication from getting on your fingers when you apply it, you may use a rubber glove, finger cot, cotton ball, or clean tissue to apply the medicine.
Methyl salicylate can cause a cold or burning sensation wherever it is applied. This sensation is usually mild and should gradually lessen over time.
If the burning sensation is painful or causes significant discomfort, wash the treated skin area with soap and cool water. Get medical attention right away if you have severe burning, pain, swelling, or blistering.
Do not cover treated skin with a bandage or heating pad, which can increase the burning sensation. You may cover the skin with clothing.
Avoid getting this medication in your eyes. If this does happen, rinse with water.
Also avoid getting this medication on contact lenses, dentures, and other items that come into contact with sensitive areas of your body.
Avoid applying methyl salicylate right after bathing or shaving. Using this medication on freshly shaved skin areas can cause severe skin irritation.
Call your doctor if your pain does not improve after using this medication for 7 days, or if your symptoms get worse or get better and then come back in a few days.
Store this medication at room temperature away from moisture and heat, in a place where children and pets cannot get to it.
Uses of Banalg in details
This product is used to treat minor aches and pains of the muscles/joints (e.g., arthritis, backache, sprains). Menthol and methyl salicylate are known as counterirritants. They work by causing the skin to feel cool and then warm. These feelings on the skin distract you from feeling the aches/pains deeper in your muscles, joints, and tendons.
Some products should not be used on children younger than 12 years without a doctor's advice. Check the label carefully before using on children between 2 and 12 years old. Do not use on children younger than 2 years.
How to use Banalg topical
Follow all directions on the product package. If you are uncertain about any of the information, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
This medication is for use on the skin only. Do not apply near the eyes, mouth, nose, or genitals, and be careful not to touch those areas while the medication is on your hands. If you do get the medication in those areas, flush with plenty of water. Wash your hands well before inserting contact lenses.
If you are using the lotion, spray, or foam, shake the bottle well before using.
Apply a thin layer of medication to the affected area no more than 3 to 4 times a day. Rub in gently and thoroughly. After applying the medication, wash your hands unless you are using this medication to treat the hands. If treating the hands, wait at least 30 minutes after applying the medication to wash your hands.
Do not apply this medication to skin that is injured or irritated (e.g., cut, scraped, sunburned). Do not bandage or tightly wrap the affected area. Doing so may increase the risk of side effects. You may cover the area loosely to protect clothing. Ask your pharmacist for more details.
Heat can increase the risk of side effects. Do not apply this medication immediately before, during, or after activities that increase skin temperature (e.g., bathing in hot water, swimming, sun bathing, heavy exercise) or in hot/humid weather. Wait until your skin has cooled before applying the medication. Do not use a sunlamp/tanning bed, hot water bottle, or heating pad on the treated area.
This product is available in different strengths and with different ingredients but with product names that sound similar. Read the label carefully to make sure you have the right product for you. Ask your pharmacist if you have any questions.
Tell your doctor if your condition persists for more than 7 days, if it worsens, or if it keeps returning. If you think you may have a serious medical problem, seek immediate medical attention.
Banalg description
Each 100 g of cream contains methyl salicylate 11 g, eugenol 1.4 g, menthol 5.6 g, cajuput oil 0.8 g and washable base.
Banalg dosage
Apply to the affected area not more than qid.

Redness, warmth, stinging, or burning on the application site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Stop using this medication and tell your doctor right away if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: blistering/swelling/severe redness at the application site, increased/unusual pain at the application site, nausea/vomiting, ringing in the ears.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
