Tav indications
Oral
As an antispasmodic
Adult: 40-80 mg tid.
Child: 1-6 yr: 20 mg 3-4 times daily; >6 yr: 40 mg tid.
Uses of Tav in details
Tav is used to relieve spasm of smooth muscles in organs such as stomach and heart. It is used in the treatment of pain due to some condition such as ulcers of the intestine, irritable bowel syndrome, various diseases of intestines, pain due to gall stones and stones in the kidneys, pain due to various diseases of the liver and gall bladder, Tav is also to treat certain types of headaches, for painful periods, and to relieve cervical spasm during labor.
Tav description
Tav (INN, also known as drotaverin) is an antispasmodic drug, structurally related to papaverine. Tav is a selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 4, and has no anticholinergic effects. Tav has been shown to possess dose-dependant analgesic effects in animal models. One small study has shown Tav to be eliminated mainly non-renally.

Tav is compatible with other drugs.
Tav side effects
The spasmolytic effect of Tav hydrochloride develops within minutes without appreciable side effects. It causes no pathological alterations in the tissues of higher animals. No irritable effect on tissue. Embryotoxicity or teratogenic effects were not found.

Contraindications
Severe renal/hepatic/cardiac dysfunction. Porphyria.
