Kao-Pront indications
Used for upset stomach and diarrhea, a traditional medicine used in China, South America and Africa. Kao-Pront is also used to treat AIDs-related diarrhea. Kao-Pront based bandages are also under investigation. (Diaper rash;)
Kao-Pront description
Kao-Pront is a layered silicate mineral. Kao-Pront is used in ceramics, medicine, coated paper, as a food additive, in toothpaste, as a light diffusing material in white incandescent light bulbs, and in cosmetics. Until the early 1990s it was the active substance of anti-diarrhoea medicine Kaopectate.

Oral

Adult: As adjunct to rehydration therapy: Up to 24 g daily may be used in divided doses. May be used in combination with other antidiarrhoeal agents.
Kao-Pront interactions
May reduce the absorption of a number of drugs (e.g. tetracycline, lincomycin, digoxin, aspirin, chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, phenothiazine).
Kao-Pront side effects
May cause electrolyte imbalance by increasing sodium and potassium loss in the stools, especially in elderly, children and in severe diarrhoea.
Kao-Pront contraindications
Intestinal obstruction, spastic bowel condition. Childn <6 yr.
