Kaolin Poultice description
Kaolin Poultice is a layered silicate mineral. Kaolin Poultice is used in ceramics, medicine, coated paper, as a food additive, in toothpaste, as a light diffusing material in white incandescent light bulbs, and in cosmetics. Until the early 1990s it was the active substance of anti-diarrhoea medicine Kaopectate.
Kaolin Poultice dosage
Oral
Diarrhoea
Adult: As adjunct to rehydration therapy: Up to 24 g daily may be used in divided doses. May be used in combination with other antidiarrhoeal agents.
Kaolin Poultice interactions
May reduce the absorption of a number of drugs (e.g. tetracycline, lincomycin, digoxin, aspirin, chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, phenothiazine).
Kaolin Poultice side effects
May cause electrolyte imbalance by increasing sodium and potassium loss in the stools, especially in elderly, children and in severe diarrhoea.
Kaolin Poultice contraindications
Intestinal obstruction, spastic bowel condition. Childn <6 yr.
